Vivienne Golding describes the Noosa Everglades

About Kanu Kapers

Established in 2002, Kanu Kapers Australia was created by local Australian World Champion gold medal kayaker Vivienne Golding and adventure partner Kym McGregor. After over 20 years of building Kanu Kapers and more than five years of constant pleas from Adventure Tribe, we finally convinced Vivienne and Kym to retire so we could carry on their great work and continue to grow the business.

In 2024, Kanu Kapers officially joined the tribe.

We provide sustainable guided and self-guided Noosa Everglades kayak adventures. Passionate about nature, we feel privileged to work in such a pristine location. The Noosa Everglades, identified as one of the most pristine wetlands in the world, are ecologically delicate and best explored by kayak for minimal environmental impact and maximum wildlife encounters. All you hear is the sound of your paddle gliding through the water and the songs of native birds.

Our mission is to deliver unique, awe-inspiring experiences to people of all ages while fostering love and respect for nature and preserving the Noosa Everglades for future generations.

About Boreen Point

Kanu Kapers is based in Boreen Point, a tranquil coastal town just 25 minutes north of Noosa’s center. Situated on the southern fringe of the Great Sandy National Park—the same park that includes K'gari (Fraser Island)—Boreen Point retains the charm of an old surfing village, a rarity on the Sunshine Coast.

This hidden gem is the perfect escape from the hustle and bustle, offering a serene atmosphere that’s exactly what visitors seek when coming to Noosa. Boreen Point’s location on the shores of the Noosa River makes it the ideal starting point for exploring the Noosa Everglades.

Our Custom Expedition Kayaks

At Kanu Kapers, we’re proud to offer fiberglass expedition kayaks specifically designed for exploring the stunning Noosa Everglades. Built with performance and practicality in mind, these kayaks are perfect for paddlers seeking a truly immersive adventure.

What Sets Our Kayaks Apart

  • Built for Exploration: Constructed from durable fiberglass, these kayaks are designed to handle long distances and multi-day journeys with ease. Their long waterline and integrated rudders provide excellent tracking and stability, ensuring an efficient paddle through the Everglades.

  • Esky-Compatible Hatches: The hatches are custom-designed to fit an esky (insulated cooler), allowing fresh food and cold drinks to be brought along to enjoy during your trip.

  • Designed for the Task: While no kayak that is built for serious paddling is entirely about comfort, ours are expertly crafted to balance comfort, functionality and endurance, ensuring you can fully embrace the wilderness adventure and see as much of the everglades system as possible in the time that you have.

  • Eco-Friendly Design: Quiet and efficient, these kayaks are perfect for low-impact exploration, allowing you to connect with nature without disturbing the delicate ecosystem.

Our kayaks are purpose-built for adventurers who want to experience the Noosa Everglades as they’re meant to be: under your own power, in harmony with nature and fully immersed in this breath-taking wilderness.

Where are the Noosa Everglades?

It is generally accepted that the true Noosa Everglades are the remote Northern stretches of the Upper Noosa River, where the fresh water meets the salt.

Where are the Noosa Everglades?

The Noosa Everglades

Hidden within the Cooloola section of the Great Sandy National Park is one of the Sunshine Coast’s best kept paddling secrets, the Noosa Everglades. Best explored by kayak, the upper reaches of the Noosa River and the Everglades represent an ancient waterway that has existed largely unchanged for thousands of years.

Our kayaking company (Kanu Kapers) offers half, one, two and three day guided and self guided tours in our easy to paddle and stable expedition sea kayaks. A kayak tour into the Noosa Everglades is an inspiring day out among some of the most spectacular scenery you will find any where in the world. Kayak hire is simple with our sleek, modern, comfortable expedition sea kayaks.

The Noosa Everglades are situated within the Northern portion of the Noosa Biosphere, Queensland’s first UNESCO Biosphere promoting harmony between people and nature through education, conservation and sustainable activities. The Noosa Biosphere Reserve encompasses 150,000 hectares of land and sea in which you can investigate the diversity of our eco-systems and culture. A wetland of international importance, it is the only river system in Australia that has its entire upper catchment protected in National Park.
